Dee Franke Trainer

I have been in love with dogs for as long as I can remember! As a child we had many dogs, but I begged and pleaded for a dog of my own. When I was 10 years old my wish came true! My sister brought home a tiny little ball of fluff from the pound. She was a lively Shepherd/Collie mix that was always happy and never quit running, jumping, or barking! I named her “Pepsi”, she was wild, happy and maybe what some people would say, a little crazy and in dire n2015-12-09 16.21.21eed of training, but she was mine and that’s all that mattered to me! When I was 10, I didn’t know much about training dogs, so I read book after book about dog training, and spent countless hours trying to get my overly happy dog under control While other kids were going to the mall, I was training my dog! I guess you could say I was successful, but looking back on those times makes me think of how much training has changed over a few decades.

Lots of things have happened in my life since those carefree days of walking the backroads with my childhood friend. College, marriage and two children later, my love of dogs has only grown stronger. Adding a dog to our little family became a priority, because I wanted my children to grow up knowing the unconditional love of a dog. Of course, when you add a dog to a family, training the dog becomes very important. Times had changed from all those years ago, and I was introduced to positive reinforcement training at a Place For Paws. I remember that I was amazed at how quickly, easily and almost effortlessly a dog could learn something! Years later,  becoming involved in dog rescue made me realize that training is the key to saving a dog’s life. Training keeps dogs in their homes, with their people and out of shelters.

Over the years, I have taken on many dogs as pets and foster dogs. I especially enjoy dogs that are a challenge to train. These dogs keep me thinking , learning and moving forward. I love it when I have to figure out what makes a dog work! My life is full, with family, friends and all my dogs, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
